ABOUT MARTIN

DELIVERING RESULTS FOR OUR COMMUNITY

My wife and I moved to the Kapiti Coast from Wellington just over 10 years ago.  We both have extended family up here and wanted to be closer to them as well as enjoy the lifestyle that the Kapiti Coast offers.

I have an extensive background in hospitality.  I worked through the openings of the Christchurch and Wellington Park Royal Hotels, which culminated in my appointment as the opening Manager of the Park Royal's Arizona Bar.     I then moved into my own business working with corporate clients and caterers for front of house staffing, equipment and Management.  I also owned Circa Theatre Restaurant, Bar & function venue for 17 years.

We wanted a business closer to home and elected to open our own place at Paraparaumu Beach, "Over the Teacups", a boutique vintage Tea House.  We took out the first Electra Business Customer Choice Award for excellence and service to our customers.  I was at this stage, on the Paraparaumu Beach Business Association.  We sold the Tea House 3 years ago.

Over the last three years I have been involved with business from Kapiti Boating Club and Lindale cafe as well as function co-ordination for corporate clients, caterers and private functions.

I am a founding member of KEDA Kapiti Economic Development Agency and am currently Deputy Chair, founding trustee with Guardians of the Kapiti Marine Reserve, involved in Low Carbon Kapiti, Kapiti Community Housing Collective, Whirlwind, Kapiti Startup Weekend and have worked with my good friend Karl Webber in setting up Kapiti Kaptchup, Whirlwind Photos in retirement villages, Kapiti Community Housing Collective as well as other initiatives.

We have also questioned council and championed issues around Te Newhanga Kapiti Community Centre, Council's investigation into borrowing to invest in the financial market, lack of implementation of Kapiit Economic Development refresh, to name a few

This has given me much insight in regards to how Council and elected candidates interact with the Community, which has led me to the conclusion that there needs to be change.  I now I have been elected as Paraparaumu Ward Councillor and I am able to step up my involvement in working for my community and wish to thank you for your support in this role.
